What is the 1st Aid Kit for?

Most moments of stress are not life threatening. However, the body can perceive them to be. Our nervous systems have not developed as fast as the modern world has, and so the regular stressors of life can be held in the body, in the nervous system as a threat.

The resulting Nervous System response gives us the experience of stress, anxiety, overwhelm, losing touch with ourselves, difficulty sleeping and many other symptoms, that when ignored or suppressed for a long period can begin to affect our health.

The 1st Aid Kit exists to give people an easy-to-use tool that can be utilised in moments of stress, when the nervous system is dysregulated. This can take the form of feeling overwhelmed, stressed, anxious, difficulty switching off, doom scrolling. It has been created to help people understand that the way they are feeling can be shifted, that they have agency over their emotions, feelings, responses, reactions, and relationships.

The world in which we live can be overwhelming...

If we partake fully in life we might be listening to the news, scrolling social media, watching tv, listening to other people’s opinions, holding down a job, raising a family, paying the bills, sustaining a healthy relationship, trying to care for our body with good nutrition and exercise, maintaining friendships and a social life and then we might just have a moment or two left over to ourselves. Simply realising how much we must juggle, manage and cope with in our modern life can give us pause for thought.

It is overwhelming. And the Nervous System feels it.

It feels pressure to perform, conform, survive, thrive. Pressure. Huge amounts of pressure.

What I have noticed in my work is that people do not need to add to their to-do list. They don’t always want a 30 minute meditation. They need support in the moment. Something that helps them interrupt the spiral and find their way back to themselves.

Whether someone is anxious, stressed, lost, overwhelmed, struggling with self-doubt, unable to sleep or stuck in overthinking, I have found that the first step is always the same.

How to Use your 1st Aid Kit

The 1st Aid Kit is a collection of rapid audio resets, or circuit breakers, for real-life moments.

They can be used:

  • at work

  • in the car

  • before difficult conversations

  • during panic

  • during overwhelm

This is practical support. In the moment. For when you are sitting in the bathroom at work gathering yourself before a meeting, for when your mind is not letting you sleep, for when you begin to feel panic arrive, for when you feel overwhelmed, for when you feel that jangling sensation of stress, that pressure behind the eyes, that tightness in the throat, for when your inner critic decides to go to town on you. For those moments that you can grab – waiting for the kids to come out of school, on your commute, for when you are beating yourself up over a small mistake, for when you have let your boundaries down and put yourself last. For the moments in your life when you just need a little support.

How Does It Work?

When we enter moments of stress we may feel anxious, overwhelmed, get caught in overthinking or self-criticism and we often believe in, and invest in, the thoughts that whirl around in our heads.

The real issue is that the nervous system has become dysregulated.

When this happens the brain and the body shift into protection mode, so our thoughts speed up, emotions are heightened, and small problems become huge. We lose perspective.

The Chakra Way First Aid Kit has been designed as a circuit breaker for those moments.

Each reset brings a simple and easy nervous system regulation technique, grounding practices, breath awareness and calm compassionate guidance to bring your nervous system back towards feeling safe once more.

Do I need meditation experience?

No, these are not meditations. You will find guided meditations on my podcast. These are resets to be used in your day-to-day life.

Can I use them more than once?

Absolutely! You will find favourites here and use them again and again until you have trained your nervous system to recognise its state and bring yourself back to regulation, without the resets. You are training your mind and body with these resets to become aware and act so that you ease back into the “Rest & Digest” part of your nervous system smoothly and swiftly.

Can I download them?

Yes. They are designed to be downloaded so you have them at your fingertips wherever you are.

Can I listen with my eyes open?

Of course. You may choose to close your eyes so you can be more present with how your body is feeling, but keeping your eyes open is fine.

What if I'm really anxious?

These resets within the 1st aid kit are not trying to make anxiety disappear… A really powerful lesson you will find here is that you don’t need to stop feeling anxious in order to feel safe. When you understand what is going on within your nervous system, you give yourself a little space around the sensations and feelings of anxiety and you allow yourself to become just a little more grounded in the present moment, the anxiety begins to soften. Just a little. These resets are not about fixing or healing yourself but taking small steps towards being compassionate to yourself, feeling supported and held and understood. If anxiety is something that you experience frequently then these resets will become an invaluable companion and support for you.

How often should I use them?

As often as you need them! Some people will reach for a reset during moments of anxiety, overwhelm or stress, using them as emotional first aid when life feels particularly challenging. Others find themselves listening more regularly, perhaps starting the day with a reset, taking five minutes between meetings, or using a particular reset whenever they notice familiar patterns beginning to emerge. There is no right or wrong way to use them. The more familiar you become with the practices, the easier it often becomes to recognise when your nervous system needs support and to respond with kindness rather than pushing through. Think of these resets as a trusted companion rather than a one-time fix. They are here whenever you need a little help finding your way back to calm, clarity and yourself.
